The moment has finally come! ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has made the final decision to shut down TikTok’s operations in the U.S. market. From now on, U.S. users will no longer be able to load or watch any videos on TikTok. A pop-up notification will inform every user in the U.S. of this change.

The issue surrounding the TikTok ban continues to evolve. Earlier, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the laws supporting the ban on TikTok do not violate the Constitution. This decision grants the U.S. government, as the executive authority, the discretion to decide whether to move forward with banning TikTok.
The outgoing Biden administration has shown no intention of advancing the ban, leaving the matter to the incoming Trump administration. Reports suggest that Trump is considering extending the timeline by 90 days to further evaluate his options. However, since Trump has not officially taken office, any decisions made by him are currently ineffective.
In light of the Biden administration’s lack of a clear stance, TikTok released a statement warning that unless the Biden administration promptly issues a directive allowing its key service providers to continue cooperation, the platform will be forced to shut down operations in the U.S. as of January 19 (local time). While TikTok initially planned to cease services at midnight on that date, the shutdown appears to have occurred earlier. Now, all U.S. users are greeted with a pop-up notification stating that TikTok is halting operations due to U.S. legal restrictions. However, the notification also suggests that resolving the issue may still be possible through cooperation with the Trump administration.
Additionally, TikTok is no longer available on Apple and Google app stores. It is unclear whether this removal was initiated by TikTok itself or preemptively carried out by the app stores. Regardless, users in the U.S. are currently unable to access TikTok. As Trump prepares to take office, the platform’s future in the U.S. market depends on the new administration’s approach. Trump may impose additional conditions that could potentially allow TikTok to resume operations in the U.S.
