ExpressVPN after the fix, China connection test

2021 September 15 China VPN connection test, in the evening of September 7 ExpressVPN appeared the official recommended server can not connect or connection difficulties, in the 10th, ExpressVPN issued a fix announcement. Since I was out of town on the 11th-13th so I didn’t follow up on it, on the morning of the 14th I did a quick test on IOS, Mac, and Win and gave you the results directly. This time I will use the Automatic protocol option in IOS, Mac and Win devices to test the official recommended servers for use in mainland China. The recommended items are reduced from the previous 6 servers to 5, with the removal of the server HK-4. However, I will still add it to the test this time to get a more comprehensive picture.

The daily speed test will help you understand three things.
1. the success rate of the VPN’s server connection in the device under test.
2. the server connection time of the VPN in the tested device.
3. the speed of the VPN after a successful connection to the server in the device under test.

Summary: The above three devices, Macbook, Windows 10 and iPhone, were tested against the officially recommended Automatic option + 5 servers (with the additional addition of HK-4). First of all, you should understand that after the 7th connection difficulties appeared, ExpressVPN made version updates to Win10 and Android, while IOS and MacOS and for the update. From the results of the test, it seems that ExpressVPN has solved the problems encountered before. And it should be fixed mainly from the server or IP. In addition, the official recommendation is 6 servers, but now the HK-4 out of the recommended list, the server is still available in Mac, Win, IOS can not connect successfully, Android is not sure (because I do not have an Android machine).

I also want to talk to you, currently Lightway-UDP protocol is still available to a small number of servers mainly in North America and Europe, while IKEv2 has more servers to connect to and use. Especially at night during peak bandwidth congestion, you can try switching protocols to improve speed.
