June 4, 2021 VPN test in China report, today I will be testing ExpressVPN’s officially recommended “Automatic + 6 servers” VPN on Windows, Mac and iPhone devices. It should also be noted that ExpressVPN’s APP is not the only option to connect in China, but also through Lightway-UDP, IKEv2 and even OpenVPN-UDP. But since today is the eye of the storm for the big blockade, I’ll keep it simple and see how well ExpressVPN is connecting to each server today and if there are any connection difficulties, speed drops, etc.
The daily speed test will help you understand the following three things.
1. the server connection success rate of the VPN in the device being tested.
2. the server connection time of the VPN in the tested device.
3. the speed of the VPN after a successful connection to the server in the device under test.

- Windows11 ExpressVPN Test in China at two sessions night - March 5, 2022. It is the first day of China's "Fifth Session of the Thirteenth National People's Congress", and this time of year is China's VPN block period. There are roughly three more severe lockdown periods in a year, in March, June and October. Occasionally, it happens occasionally. I remember that the March blockade last year (2021) and the year before (2020) was not very serious, and it passed in roughly 2-3 days. During the blocking period, most VPNs only experienced some server failures and a slight slowdown. But this lockdown I feel worse than before...

Windows10 + Automatic Test in China: version 10.2.4 (11)
The 10.2.4 (11) I’m testing now is considered the international version. In early June ExpressVPN released version 10.3.0.23 specifically for Chinese users, and since I’ve been using 10.2.4 (11) recently and everything is fine with that version, I didn’t bother testing its latest Chinese version. If you find that you are currently unable to connect in Windows, you can upgrade to the latest version, the download address is organized in this page: Download.

Summary: From the above test results of the six officially recommended servers in the three devices Windows 10, MacBook, and iPhone, the network blocking hardly had any impact on ExpressVPN, at least from the user’s point of view. Perhaps ExpressVPN’s technical team has done a lot of work in this area. Also since I don’t have an Android phone in my hand, all of them can’t be tested on it. But Android as a better open cell phone system, its VPN wall should be similar to Windows, from the few readers to give me feedback, Android is currently running well. As of now there has been no feedback from Android users that ExpressVPN is unable to connect.
You also need to understand that ExpressVPN does not only have these 6 servers to connect to. Based on my long term attempts to observe that more servers can be connected through Lightway-udp, IKEv2, if you want to know how these two connection protocols are used, you can refer to the previous series of ExpressVPN test reports.
